Not able to login CMS server after change Request port no in CMS server

$

Hi,

By following SAP NOTE: 1628154, configuring promotional management to connect Destination system (Dev server) from production system. I have tried to assign static port no to the request port in the Central Management Server. After restart the SIA not able to login back to the CMC and getting below error message.

Account information not recognized: Could not reach CMS 'CFDWBIR02:6400'. Specify the correct host and port and check for network issues. (FWM 20030)

I would have to try over 6410 range port but gave 6402.

Now do we have any way to change the port no in the Central Management Server with out logging CMC?

Thanks

Hello Everyone,

Objective: Create dashboard and webi reports on BEx query directly, for this we need to create OLAP Connection(BICs)to SAP BI server.

Introduction: SAP BO 4.0 onwards allows us to connect BEx query via Business Intelligence Consumer Services (BICS) connection which also known as OLAP connection. We can create and save OLAP connection through CMC (Central Management Console) or IDT (Information Design Tool). OLAP connection can be created to connect BI server, Multiprovider, InfoCube and Bex query. If connection is specific for particular Query, Cube or Multiprovider then goes for create it in query or cube base Otherwise create connection on BI server through which we can connect to any BEx query. The benefit of creating Connection on BI server is single OLAP connection for all BO reports.

Create OLAP connection to connect BI server:

1) Login to CMC with Administrator authorization right and goes to OLAP Connection

2) Then select new connection

  3) Put the BI server details as per below given screen shot.

4) Click on Connect button to check connectivity give BI server credential.

5) Don’t select any cube or query as we are making connection to BI server, click on cancel.

6) Select Authentication Type as ‘Predefined’ and maintain user name and password and save.

Now we have created OLAP Connection to BI server successfully using CMC. Hope this Document will be helpful.

Complete SSO overview

The following document is intended to summarize the various SSO options available to users, from authenticating to the BI platform all the way down to the database.  The document does not cover the 'how to' as various white papers exist.

The first table summarizes the various ways the system can perform single sign-on to the web based appplications.

biprwsYesNoYesNo

-OpenDocument refers to the direct link to report functionality.

-BI Portal is the main portal used to access & view reports

-CMC = Central Management Console

-dswsbobje = web services.

Note that to support Kerberos SSO, your CMS (Central Management Server) must be installed on a windows machine.

Trusted Authentication can generally be used for any authentication method which is not natively supported by BI4, such as SAML, x509 etc.

Thick Clients, such as Crystal Reports Designer, Web Intelligence and others can also be configured for SSO to logon to BI4.

The following table summarizes this:

ClientAD kerberos
Crystal Reports 2011Yes
Crystal Reports for EnterpriseYes
Webi Rich ClientYes
Information Design ToolYes
Universe DesignerYes
Live OfficeYes
BI WidgetsYes
QUAAWSYes
Dashboard Designer (Xcelsius)Yes

Note that for the Java based clients, you will need to perform some additional steps to support AD SSO, such and configuring a krb5.ini file.  This applies to clients such as Crystal Reports for Enterprise,  Information Design Tool, and Visual Intelligence.  Please refer to the Authentication chapter of the respective client tool for more information.

The clients can also be further configured further to perform single sign-on to the database, which is elaborated further in tables below.

Once a user has been authenticated to the BI platform, their SSO ticket can in some cases be passed further down to the database for a seamless end to end SSO story.

SSO to database based on Kerberos can be configured for the following databases, note that the user must logon to the BI platform using Active Directory for the kerberos ticket to be passed down to the database.   Note however that this cannot be used for scheduling, as the kerberos ticket will not be available to the system when the user is not online.  For scheduled tasks, the database credentials must be stored.

Kerberos
HANA (not for Olap Analysis)
SQL Server (incl. Analysis Server)
Oracle
Teradata via ODBC through UNX (4.1 only)

Yes, there are plans to expand this list in the future.

For SAP data access, the following methods can be configured.  You will need to configure the correct method depending on the client tool being used.  "SNC" is configured on the "SNC Settings" tab of the SAP authentication configuration area of the Central Management Console.   "STS (Security Token Service)" is configured on the "Options" tab of the SAP authentication configuration area, in the "SAP SSO Service" section.

In order to gain SSO access to SAP data, a user does NOT have to logon with their SAP credentials.   For an example of how users can authenticate using Active Directory and then single sign-on to SAP systems, please refer to this how to: How to map SAP users and LDAP users in SBO BI4.0 CMC - Business Intelligence (BusinessObjects) - SCN Wiki

The SAP authentication can also be leveraged from thick clients.  A user logging onto Webi Rich Client can leverage STS for example to access BW data.

SAML to HANA is based on a trust directly between BI4 and HANA.  This does not mean that you can use SAML to signon to BI4 and that same SAML assertion ticket gets passed down to HANA.  BI4 must be configured as a trusted identity provider in HANA. The same users must exist in HANA and BI4.

What other SSO options do I have?

The BI platform also supports storing database credentials to be used for accessing the database.   In some cases, as with kerberos & offline scheduling, this cannot be avoided.  Also, for database sources which are not currently listed, stored credentials are the best options available at this time.

Can I setup multiple SSO options on a single system?

Yes, with 4.1 SP6 and on, the sso.types.and.order option in your properties allows for setting up fallback SSO options in order.   If some users are configured for AD SSO and others for SAP SSO, you can try AD first and try SAP SSO as fallback.  See note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/2041379 for details.

Overview:

Working with SAP Consulting I have been involved in a few discussions with customers where it has surfaced that there are some feature differences when using the SAP BusinessObjects BI server on different operating Systems and customers were not aware of some differences. This blog intends to collect and document feature differences between SAP BI BusinessObjects Server OS.

Which Operating Systems are generally supported for the SAP BI Server?

As of today (BI4.1 SP06) following OS are mentioned in the PAM as supported: Windows, Linux, AIX and Solaris.

Are there feature differences for end users depending on the SAP BI Server OS?

Yes, here a summary of differences:

Table 1: Feature differences as of BI 4.1 SP06

Are there any features supported on *nix and not on Windows?

The only disadvantage seems to be related to the ability of Installing multiple BO servers in one single machine.

Can I have a mix deployment?

Yes, this is possible.

Complete SSO overview

The following document is intended to summarize the various SSO options available to users, from authenticating to the BI platform all the way down to the database.  The document does not cover the 'how to' as various white papers exist.

The first table summarizes the various ways the system can perform single sign-on to the web based appplications.

Front End SSOWeb Access PointAD Kerberos SSOSAPSSO2 ticketsTrusted AuthenticationSiteMinder (4.x agent)
OpenDocumentYesYesYesYes
BI PortalYesYesYesYes
CMC (4.1 SP6+)
YesYesYesYes
DSWSBOBJEYesNoYes*,web only
No
biprwsYesNoYesNo

Crystal Reports 2011Crystal Reports for Enterprise
Analysis for Office also supports client side SNC for direct access to BW.Information Design Tool

Dashboards

Business Intelligence platform 4.0/4.1 and Crystal Server 2011/2013 - Version Information

$

Where can I find my version number?

You can find the version number (also referred to as the build number) for your software in several locations, including:

  • On Windows, in the Add or Remove Programs dialog. The update indicates the current level.

    BIversion_AddRemovePrograms.png

  • In the Help > About menu of most BI platform client tools, such as the universe design tool.

    BIversion_udt_helpabout.png

What does my version number mean?

The version number of your software appears as 14.x.y.abc. This number corresponds to a particular Support Package (or Feature Pack) and Patch level as follows:

  • 14 = Major release 4.0/2011.
  • x = Minor release number.
  • y = Support Package level.
  • abc = Build number corresponding to your Patch level.

For example, 14.0.2.481 corresponds to 4.0 Support Package 2 Patch 6, or Patch 2.6.

The following table lists the version numbers for SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 4.0, and what Feature Pack (FP), Support Package (SP), and Patch level the version number corresponds to. These levels are the same for both the client and server installation programs and also apply to SAP Crystal Server 2011.

Where can I find version information for BI platform 4.1 and Crystal Server 2013?

Starting in 4.1, the installation program creates and updates a version.txt file where you can check the current version of your BI platform server installation. The file is located at:

  • <BIP_INSTALL_DIR>/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/linux_x64/version/ (Unix)
  • <BIP_INSTALL_DIR>\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win64_x64\version\ (Windows)

This file contains the build number and version name for the last update applied to your installation. For example:

14.1.0.981

4.1 Patch 2

See "Checking the installed version" in the following installation guides:

Where can I find version information for previous SAP BusinessObjects releases?

Hi All,

I just want to share my experience which may help to many BI folks to resolve their issues when create or running webi Reports. Due to unsupport java we may can see below error.

"Unspecified error invoking method or accessing property "onChangeDocID"

webi error.png

Replication steps: Logged on and selected the Webi  Icon, select Web Intelligence Document, select Universe, Looked at universe list to make sure I didn’t see any restricted universes.  Selected universe and created a new Webi report.  When I ran the report, may get above error, however, as you can see report data did return but when select close of X out of the error, report will disappears.

Cause: Unsupported java Version

Resolution:

Update java version later to Java 1.0.7_51

Reference Note: Same issue mentioned in the below SAP note: 1933283 - Error: "Unspecified error invoking method or accessing property "onChangeDocID" " when refreshing a new WebI report after choosing query elements.

Issue will be no longer occurred after Java version 7 update 45 .

But in you case you are in Java Update 51. Hence i would request you to clear the Java cache and try the same flow.

To clear java cache:

Navigate to control panel --> Java --> On general tab --> Temporary file settings --> Delete files --> ok.

Restart browsers and retest.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Venky

Error: Could not reach CMS 'hostname:6400'. Specify the correct host and port and check for network issues. (FWM 20030)

Hi All,

I would like to share my experience how to overcome CMC login issues due to port issues.

When may require to add static request port for CMS for specific reasons. For ex: when setup multi domain config for promotion management. When we enter wrong/conflict port at the request port or named space port, we can not login CMC at all and we will get below error.

cmc port error.png

We can not login to CMC to revert back the ports we entered. So below is the alternative way to revert back your port changed for the specific servers in the CMC. Here I am showing for CMS as it will be the show stopper for the CMC.

For ex: if I gave the request port as 6401 as below.

cms request port static.png

Actual request ports should be 6408 or 6409 or from 6411 based on the network settings.

Also when maintaining request port make sure select the "name server port" with "user default settings" rather than with 6400.

So to revert back navigate to the application server C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win64_x64\ and modify “_boe_hostname.bootstrap” file proper ties by comparing existing working version if any.

Wrong port maintenance tag looks like as below: (this may vary based on the server or port or any other reason. Best way to compare this file whole code with working environment).

  • <property flags="0" name="SI_ARGS" type="String">-startedBySIA -requestport 6408 -port 6400</property>

then change it to original version to login back to CMC and then give the desired valid port. (Recommended)

  • <property name="SI_ARGS" type="String" flags="0"/>

or if you want to set correct ports here itself update as below.

<property name="SI_ARGS" type="String" flags="0">-startedBySIA -requestport 6408</property>

Hope this helps.

I gave very high level, please feel free to ask if any clarifications in this.

Thanks

Venky

Automatic Backup of Full System using LCM_CLI.bat for SAP Business Intelligence 4.x

Hi,

What is Lcm_cli.bat ?

It is Command line interface for running the  Promotion Management when you wanted to migrate the content more than 100+ objects between SAP Business Intelligence BI 4.x environment.

When using GUI method i.e. Promotion Management it is not possible to migrate/create a lcmbiar file with more than 100+ objects.

  • The promotion management command line tool takes a properties file as a parameter. The properties file contains the required parameters to communicate the promotion management tool about the actions to perform, system(s) to connection to, connection methods, objects to promote, and so on.
  • The file must be in the form of <File Name>.properties
  • Please refer to the Administrators guide for a complete list of parameters to use with Lcm_cli.bat

Files Included :

  1. .bat script file which is used to run the tool. ( Name : SAPLCMCLI.bat )
  2. 3 Job Properties Files for Users and User's Groups, Dependent Objects, Primary Objects (Job1_userandgroups.properties , Job2_dependencies.properties, Job3_primaryobjects.properties)

Purpose

I have created a script which can be used to backup the full environment (Users, Dependent Objects, Primary Objects) using Lcm_cli.bat file. Either you can run the script manually or you can schedule it which will automatically take the backup according to the Recurrence set in in the Task Scheduler of Operating System i.e. Windows in this case.

This script will create 3 different LCMBIAR files for Users, Dependent Objects, Primary Objects which can be used to import using the lcm_cli.bat tool if needed.

Pre-requisites:

  • SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 4.0\4.1 should be installed on the machine.
  • Ensure to Run the BAT file as “Run as Administrator”
  • For Better Results ensure you make the changes for Resources using KBA - "1969259 - LCM CLI Master Note - How to promote thousands of objects across BI4 environments" For More queries and Sample queries.
  • Changes need to be done in SAPLCMCLI.bat file for “Working Directory" if you are placing the folder in C: Drive then you don't need to do the changes in .bat and .properties files too.
      1. Download the Folder and place the folder in any drive ( For example : E:\BackupBI , D:\BackupBI or try to keep shortest path to avoid naming Character limitation)
      2. Open in SAPLCMCLI.bat in any Text Editor and make the changes below :

changeinbat.jpg

  • Change the Information according to your server in .properties files and also the export location which you have changed :

properties1.jpg

properties2.jpg

properties3.jpg

Steps to RUN the Script :

  • If you wanted to run the script only 1 Time or manually run the script you can simply navigate to the location (Current : C:\BackupBI\SAPLCMCLI.bat )

runlcmcli.jpg

  • Below is the result what you will get after running the script :

result.JPG

  • The Backup Files will be generated in the same location where the script folder is placed (Ex : C:\BackupBI\Backup ) and renamed to the date when it was modified.

Steps to Perform Automatic Backup :

  • You need to follow the same processor before starting this step because it will verify whether all the properties files and bat file is running perfect and giving the results.

  • Open Task Scheduler in the Windows.

task sceduler.JPG

  • Choose Create Basic Task

create Task.JPG

  • It will open the Main Window of Task Organizer and Fill in the Information according to your purpose.

infotask sceduler.JPG

  • Schedule the recurrence in the Trigger i.e. Daily/Weekly/Monthly etc.

scedule.jpg

  • Choose the recurrence Time :

scedule time.JPG

  • In the Action Menu Choose : Start the Program

savetask.JPG

  • Verify the Information and then click on Finish.

verify.JPG

  • It will generate the same results and will take automatic backup as per your need and append the Date with the File Name.Final Biar Backup.JPG
