Step by Step Installation SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.x

This documentation demonstrates step by step procedures of SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.x installation on Windows  Server 2008x64.

Pre-installation

System requirement

Microsoft .Net Framework3.5 or higher

In order to install SAP BusinessObjects BI platform 4.x please ensure the system meet above requirements, also need administrative rights to run the Setup program. Please note that SAP Crystal Reports Server, Information Platform Services, and Information Steward cannot be installed on same system. This is step by step instruction for full installation , therefore BI platform server 4.x cannot already be installed of course.

 

Installation procedure

 

01.    Run the Setup.exe from the extracted BI software folder, usually is located:

         \51046778\DATA_UNITS\BusinessObjectsServer_win

02.    It takes some time for the installer to initialize, please wait while it loads

03.    Choose the desire setup language then click on OK to continue

04.   Check prerequisites

If there is any Critical type prerequisites failed you cannot go to next step. Correct all failed critical prerequisites then click on Next to continue

05.    Click on Next to continue upon the Welcome screen

06.    Read and accept License Agreement, then click on Next to continue

07.    Enter the product key provided by SAP then click on Next to continue

08.   Select Language Packages

Choose the desire language packages for the BI Platform, default language English is pre-selected and cannot be removed

09.    Select the type of installation then click on Next to continue

FullInstall a complete SAP BusinessObjects BI platform system
Custom/Expand

Choose the application features want to install, or add server to an existing SAP BusinessObjects BI platform system

Web TierInstall only the Web Tier features

10.    Provide the installation directory for the BI Platform

          The default path is C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP Business Objects\

11.   Since select Full installation here skip Select the required features you want to install.

While select other two type of installations you are given chance to select required features. Click on Disk Cost to know the disk space will be occupied by BI features after installation. After choosing features click on Next to continue

12.   Select default or existing database

Select whether to configure and install Sybase SQL Anywhere or use an existing database to store data for the SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform (Till BI 4.0 SP6, integrated Database for BI Platform was MS SQL Server 2008 R2). Choose default Sybase SQL Anywhere then click on Next to continue

There is no SAP HANA option available from the CMS Database type, but you can migrate to SAP HANA later, here is the guide to how to change CMS database

13.    Select Java Web Application Server

Select a Java Web Application Server solution, default Web Application Server is Tomcat 7.0. Click on Next to continue

14.    Select Version Management

Select whether to install default version control system or use an existing system for version management. Click on Next to continue

15.    Configure Server Intelligence Agent (SIA)

Provide a name for SIA Node and its port number. Default port number is 6410. Click Next to continue

16.     Enter a port number for the CMS. Default port number is 6400, click on Next to continue

17.   Enter the administrator account password and cluster key for the CMS

Administrator is the default BI platform account used to control and maintain the Server. The Cluster Key is used to connect multiple CMS servers together. These are encrypted and stored in the CMS and you cannot retrieve it later if you forgot. However you can change later via SIA. Anyway please store it somewhere safe. Also refrain from using special characters (!,@,#,$,%,^,&,*) in administrator password and cluster key.

        Click on Next to continue

18.    Configure Sybase SQL Anywhere

Enter the server port number for Sybase SQL Anywhere database and its dba account password. Since integrated DB is Sybase you need to set the password for the CMS DB. Default port number of Sybase SQL Anywhere is 2638. Click on Next to continue

19.     Configure Tomcat

Enter the port information for Tomcat (Web Application Server) for Connection, Shutdown and Redirect ports. Use default settings and click on Next to continue

Connection Port:              8080

Shutdown Port:                8005

Redirect Port:                    8443

20.     Configure HTTP listening port

Enter the HTTP listening port for connecting to WACS and RESTful Web Services. Default port is 6405. Click on Next to continue

21.     Enter the port and user name for the Subversion version control system. Click on Next to continue

22.     Select connectivity for Solution Manager Diagnostics (SMD) Agent

Enable or disable the Solution Manager Diagnostics (SMD) Agent and Introscope Enterprise Manager. You can able to enable these features after installation also. Hence you are skipping the configuration. Click on Next to continue

23.     Start installation

The installation is ready to install SAP BusinessObjects BI platform, click Back to make change to your installation information.

Click Next to begin the installation

24.    Complete installation

Installation may take hours based on your system configuration. Normally it would take max of 2hrs. It is better to monitor the installation to observe the errors. You can look the setup engine log regularly to confirm that there are no errors. The log would be in the following location:Inst_dir:\InstallData\logs\YYYY.MM.DD.HH.MM.SS\setupengine.txt

25.     SAP Business Objects BI Platform has been successfully installed in your server
